A Most Uninviting Door

During our walks around various towns, this is currently our top place pick for the least inviting door.  

Aside from "Come in and meet your future ex-wife," nothing about this is funny.

I don't know why I have memories of this place that make me bristle whenever it's mentioned.  My gut reaction is, "Yeah, good place to go if you want to get into a fight over nothing."  I don't know why I think that.  Maybe this campaign of warning signs has helped calm the place down.

I'm not going in there to find out.

How Senior Are You?

We were out in Cottonwood, Arizona recently, and stopped are a colorful building of what looked like furniture and resale shops.  The overall design and display of items was very well done, with several different areas with densely rustic themes.   Toward the back, there was this hilarious sign about senior discounts: It was nearing the end of a long day, with over an hour of walking up and down hills up in Julian, at about 5500 feet altitude.  So we felt "antique".  I don't know why they added the Ripley's Believe It Or Not quote at the bottom. We didn't find any items we needed, but we did enjoy the balance of goods on display and the huge design effort behind the whole place.

Take a Ball ... Heck, Take All of Them

At the dog park in Rancho Bernardo, there's this optimistic little box that says, "Take a Ball, Have a Ball."  That's a fun idea. There's even a little plea to think about other people.  "Leave a ball for your pals."  But what always happens is, people are more likely to take than give.  So boxes like these always end up empty and full of dust.

Municipal Memorial Stones

We were at the Sedona Public Library today, and enjoyed the big patio outside.  We were there about 15 minutes before they open so we had a chance to explore, and we liked the variety of memorial stones added to the walkways. There are most often the names of loved ones or past donors to library causes.  But sometimes they are quirky quotes or little bits with personality. I can do without the ones that are references to scripture or bible quotes.  You can't commemorate your loved ones without pushing your religion at everyone who walks by? Here are the ones that resonated the most with us today.  Motivational or positive, or bits of wisdom, from any source: I have often wondered exactly how these memorials are submitted or selected.  There must be some charitable process that gets the words onto the commemorative tiles, with some amount of donation.  I could not find this on the website for this particular library, but all kinds of other donations are ...
